The Venetian Lions and Metro Stars battled in the Masters final with the winner earning a berth to the 2010 Provincial Championships in Ottawa. After winning game 1 the Lions dropped game two but got some revenge with an overtime win in the 2 game total point series.
Finishing the regular season in first place with a 11-2-1 record the Lions had to dodge the upstart Toronto Penguins in the Semi-Finals. After tying game one the Lions barely escaped a 2-1 victory over the Penguins with a goal late in the game.
The Stars took a different road. After beating D12 convincingly in game one, they had to fight back after losing game two. Finally after 9 minutes of overtime Chris Richardson sent the Stars to the final with a spectacular goal.
The Lions took most of the play in game one and two winning game one 4-2. But it was a different story in game two as goaltender Andrew Smith stopped all 21 shots to earn a 2-0 victory to sent the series to overtime.
The overtime was a see-saw battle with both teams missing numerous chances. But after 8 minutes Pino Caccamo found the back of the net to secure the win. Congratulations to manager Domenic Cannatelli and the Venetian Lions on gaining a provincial birth, something that has eluded them for the past few years. Lions goaltender Massimo Babusci earned playoff MVP honours.
