The Manitoba Ball Hockey Association is pleased to announce the inaugural season of the Manitoba Minor Ball Hockey League. With divisions to fit all age categories and open to boys and girls, the MBHA expects a hit right from the get go. Divisions start at 7 and under, and include 9 and under, 11 and under, 13 and under, 15 and under and 17 and under divisions. The younger age categories serve as an introduction to both hockey and ball hockey and have a large practice component, and the older divisions focus primarily on games.
The long term goal of this is to establish minor ball hockey in the province of Manitoba as a viable spring/summer sport offering. It is a great sport, with opportunities for all levels of play, as well it is a great way for kids to get in the best shape of their lives and sharpen up their hockey skills, in a cost effective manner.
We have already seen many of our provinces best adults have success at the nationals, worlds, and professional level ball hockey, the minors program will only make our province stronger, and we actually have a goal of competing strongly nationally and internationally at the minor levels.
With costs on par with summer sports such as soccer and baseball this will be a very accessible sport for the youth and children in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba. Equipment costs will be minimal as the only required equipment is a stick, helmet, runners, gloves and a jock. All uniforms will be supplied. The league will run from May until the end of June and will not interfere with summer holidays.
